You'll have 25 minutes to complete the 0.25mi swim after the final swimmer enters the water. If you don't finish within that window, you'll be pulled from the water. Safety first, always.
Austin water temperature in May is typically borderline 78°F. Per USAT rules, if water is below 78°F, wetsuits are legal and count for awards; at 78.1°F or above, wetsuits are optional but would disqualify you from awards.
Our water safety team consists of fully qualified lifeguards plus bank-based lifeguards on pontoons. If you get into difficulty, lie on your back, raise your arm, and a kayak will come to you.
No, there is no swim warm-up available at the event. Arrive early on Monday to familiarize yourself with the entry point and water.
Your bike must be road-worthy and comply with USAT rules. Handlebars must have stoppers (no bare open metal), you must wear an approved safety helmet, and fixed-wheel bikes are not permitted.
