Sprint Distance

Seven hundred fifty meters at Alamitos Beach. Twenty kilometers of flat, closed roads through downtown Long Beach. Five kilometers on the beachfront. Sprint is the sweet spot: long enough to test fitness, fast enough to race hard.

Sunday at Long Beach. This is competitive triathlon at its best.

Alamitos Beach & Ocean Boulevard

Swim: A calm, breakwater-sheltered swim at Alamitos Beach with the Marine Stadium as your backdrop. Course maps are subject to change. Final routes will be confirmed closer to race day.

750 Meters in Breakwater-Sheltered Water.

The Sprint swim is 750 meters at Alamitos Beach. Breakwater-sheltered water. Lifeguard support. Clear sightlines to shore. This is a real swim distance that rewards technique and fitness without overwhelming you.

You’ll enter from the beach and swim parallel to shore. The water is calm and predictable. By the time you exit the water, you’ll have established your race rhythm.

Train in open water before race day. Make the distance familiar. Make the shoreline your advantage.

Ocean Boulevard. Shoreline Drive. Past the Aquarium of the Pacific. Twenty kilometers of flat, closed roads through downtown Long Beach. No traffic. No hills. Just speed and scenery.

The Sprint bike course is where fitness becomes visible. Fast athletes pull ahead. Smart athletes pace for the run. The flat terrain rewards every watt you generate.

This is racing in Southern California at its finest. The Pacific on your left. The city on your right. Your best effort on display.

You've swum 750 meters. You've raced 20 kilometers on closed roads. Now the 5K is yours. Flat beachfront running with the Pacific breeze and spectators lining the course.

The finish area is alive with music, celebration, and athletes who understand what you just accomplished. Cross that line knowing you raced one of the best Sprint courses in California.

FAQs

Alamitos Beach water temperature in July is typically in the low 60s to 70s°F. Water temperature will be measured the morning of the race and communicated to all athletes.

Wetsuits are recommended for comfort at typical Long Beach water temperatures. Under USAT rules, wetsuits are permitted and will not affect awards eligibility at these temperatures.

All athletes must be off the bike course by 10:15 AM. Plan your pace accordingly. The flat course allows most trained athletes to finish well within the cutoff.

Your bike must be road-worthy and comply with USAT rules. Handlebars must have stoppers (no bare metal ends). An approved cycling safety helmet is mandatory. Fixed-wheel bikes are not permitted.

Yes. A test swim session is available on Saturday before race day. Check official race communications for exact timing and location.
